Anglican Board of Mission- Lent Appeal
This year’s appeal goes to support ABM’s Encounter program, supporting overseas partners in PNG, the Solomons, Vanuatu and Myanmar to come to Australia and learn new skills to help them as they work for God’s Mission. In addition the Lent Appeal is also to support the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mission Fund. Gifts to support this appeal will support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Churches in work to build flourishing communities of love, hope and justice, with guidance from NATSIAC.
Shrove Tuesday 25th February
A Liturgy of Reconciliation will be held at 4.30pm, followed by pancakes at the Rectory at 5pm. There is a list at both churches. Please write your name on the list & and what you would like to bring (savoury or sweet). There will be a donation bowl to kickstart the ABM Lent Appeal.
Shrove Tuesday get's its name from the ritual of shriving, Christian penitence and absolution. In shriving, a person confesses their sins and receives forgiveness.
Ash Wednesday 26th February
This is an important day to observe for the start of Lent. There will be a Eucharist & Imposition of Ashes at St Paul’s commencing 10.00am and St John’s at 7.00pm.
Ash Wednesday is the start of Lent and takes place 46 days before Easter Sunday. The tradition of placing ashes on the forehead symbolise the dust from which God made us. As reminded by the priest, "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return."

Prayer for Lent
Almighty and ever living God,
you invite us deeper into your world, your people, your Lent.
May this time be one of outward focus;
seeking you in those we often ignore.
Help us live a Lent focused on freedom, generosity, and encounter.
Give us hearts hungry to serve you
and those who need what we have to give.
