Father Ian's Ponderings...

SECOND SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

14/6/2020

Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,
Having come through the seasons of Lent and Easter, observed Ascension and celebrated Pentecost and Trinity Sunday’s we move now into a different season. It is a long season of green. Green being its liturgical colour. What might this symbolise?
You may have learned in earlier years that the green colour we use for this long season stands for growth. That through this time the Scriptures we listen to and read, the worship we partake in, our daily devotions and the work we undertake with our hands, minds and hearts might bear fruit. That we as followers of Jesus can make a difference in bringing Christ’s love and light into the shadowy places of our lives and for the community of which we are a part. Today’s Gospel reading have those iconic words: The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.
There is plenty and ample opportunity for us all to live out our faith. In sharing love and life in daily conversations and actions. Sometimes the most simple and down to earth ideas bear much more fruit than grandiose schemes. If the pattern of our life is about living the faith this will be the mark of being a true labourer in The harvest.

May you journey and strive well in our Lord’s harvest this week.

Fr Ian
