God loves all people and hopes we will respond to that love.
Baptism is the way the Church and its members welcome children (and adults) into the Christian family.
Congratulations on taking the first step towards Baptism, whether it is for your child or for yourself. Making the decision for baptism is a very significant one that celebrates the central place of the love of God and willingness to be recognised as a Christian.
God loves all people and hopes we will respond to that love. Baptism is the way the Church and its members welcome children (and adults) into the Christian family.
It is also a time for a child’s parents and godparents to make a commitment before the Christian community and before God to bring up the child in the faith.
Baptism is a public event where we celebrate the entry of a new member into the Church and give thanks for the love of God which will be with your child for their whole life. Because it is a public welcome and public commitment, this is why we celebrate baptism at one of our regular parish worship service times.
Baptism is the only rite (or service) of entry into what is essentially God’s Church. In baptism we are joined to Christ and made a part of the life of the Church. In baptism we become full members of the Body of Christ and are able to share fully in the life of the church; it’s sacraments and organization of mission and ministry. Baptism is an important step in our relationship with God and how we live that out in community. This is why baptism is so important.
So once again, congratulations on beginning a journey that leads to baptism. This is an opportunity for a new beginning that can continue to be a catalyst for on-going transformation of life. Let me also take this moment to encourage you to continue being involved with the church. It can make a world of difference to our lives and the ultimate benefits (to use a pun) are out of this world.
